Reunited and it feels so good

In English class today, we were told to complete a "Free Write" entry in our writing journals. I immediately thought about what topic I should write about and figured that the freshest, and most interesting topic in my mind were the Oscars! My head was still spinning from the many radiating beauties and handsome beaus strutting their stuff on the red carpet last night, and of course, from those who did not perform as well... cough*cough* HELENA BONHAM CARTER DO YOU OWN A BRUSH OR USE A STYLIST? Sorry... I tend to have random outbursts like that... MELISSA LEO LET'S TRY NOT TO LOOK LIKE A DOILY EXPLODED ON A CHRISTMAS PRESENT. Sorry... now I'm done. I think...

Anyhoo, I could go on and on about the worst, but why bother when there are those lucky few who knocked it out of the park, not only with their acting skills, but with their stellar outfit choices. So without further delay, here are my picks for the Best Dressed at the 2011 Academy Awards:

Rhea Durham
Dress by Naeem Khan

Cate Blanchett
Dress by Givenchy Couture
Jewels by Van Cleef and Arpels

While some may beg to differ (including The Man Repeller who described Cate's dress to be similar to a toilet seat...) overall I think Cate looked rather lovely. Her hair and makeup were subtle yet pretty, and the dress was feminine yet edgy. I particularly enjoyed it because it was a dress I haven't really seen before. Not to mention, I love the colours.

Hailee Steinfeld
Dress by Marchesa
Jewels by Fred Leighton
Clutch and Shoes by Ferragamo

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know I am a sucker for young hollywood starlets, and nothing makes me happier than when they know how to dress appropriately for their age! I don't mean being all conservative and everything, as I am all for cool and different, but nothing makes me happier than the stars know show to pick an outfit that matches the theme and dress code for an event, without dressing way beyond their years. If it is not clear by the photograph above, Hailee Steinfeld killed it.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves
Suit by Dolce and Gabbana
Dress by Kaufman Franco
Shoes by Stuart Weitzman
Jewels by Lorraine Schwartz
Bag by Kotur

Are they not the hottest couple? I mean come on, first off, Mr. McConaughey is the most attractive man EVER, annnnnddddd he is wearing a Dolce and Gabbana suit.

McConaughey dimples + D&G = perfection

Now on to Camila... wow. This dress is so awesome I can't even begin to describe. Not only is it extremely flattering, but paired with those statement earrings and you have an ideal look for any female starlet or wannabe (a.k.a. ME).

Michelle Williams
Dress by Chanel Haute Couture
Jewels by Harry Winston
Shoes by Jimmy Choo

Is it possible that this ravishing beauty, who appears so soft and timid, delivered the heart-rending performance in Blue Valentine that landed her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress? I certainly can't believe they are the same person but va va voom, this babe has got it going on! The colour of the dress is perfect, and I love the hint of shimmer. The makeup is light and highlights Ms. Williams flawless complexion. And how adorable is her pixie cut? The colour is perfecto!

Mila Kunis
Dress by Elie Saab Haute Couture
Jewels by Neil Lane
Clutch by Bottega Veneta

While I am not a huge fan of Mila's hair or makeup, I think that this dress is absolutely stunning. The colour and fabric emit a feeling of femininity. The dress has wonderful flow and works perfectly with Mila's petite body. In one word, delightful.

Natalie Portman
Dress by Rodarte
Jewels by Tiffany & Co.
Bag by Roger Vivier

What is better than a movie star looking positively prepossessing on the red carpet? Why, a PREGNANT movie star looking positively preposessing, of course! Natalie Portman was simply glowing last night, and I cannot tell if is because she took home the title of Best Actress for her role in The Black Swan, or for the more obvious, and showing reason ;). All I know is that this swan queen can take her Oscar and dance her way home as she is well-deserving of all the fabulous praise with regard to  The Black Swan!

Reese Witherspoon
Dress by Armani PrivĂ©
Jewels by Neil Lane

Calm, cute, classy, honestly, she's done it all. Props to Reese Witherspoon for making a large statement in the most subtle of ways! Her attempt to put together a timeless, and elegant outfit for the 2011 Oscars surely paid off as she is looking rather divine, wouldn't you say?

Gwyneth Paltrow
Performance dress by Michael Kors

All photos via JustJared and Fab Sugar

Many are going to protest when I say that in my opinion, Gwyneth's red carpet frock was short of fabulous. However, that being said, she made up for her boo boo with a neutral, yet shimmery Michael Kors masterpiece later on in the evening! Great recovery, Gwyneth!

Up next: the hostess with the mostest! Stay tuned for a report on Anne Hathaway's many Oscar outfits! xx

P.s. I almost forgot! If anyone is interested, this is what I came up with for that poem I was talking about earlier (inspired by Daavi)...

The hostess with the mostest,
Why Anne Hathaway of course,
Looked glitzy and glam,
And produced a laugh with much force.

Her co-host, James Franco,
Was awkward and weird,
Oh please Christian Bale,
Could you not trim your beard!?

A dancer in violet,
Graced the carpet last night,
Beside her was Marky Mark,
Ready to fight.

Michelle Williams was soft and pretty,
Hailee Steinfeld too,
Banksy was at the Oscars?
Did you hear!? Is it true!?

Mr. Firth radiated charm,
Along with co-star Geoffrey Rush,
Reese was dazzling and classy,
My her hair was lush!

Helena Bonham Carter,
Oh gosh, where do I start?!
Ms. Portman's performance,
Why it is a true work of art.

'Tis a night of glamour,
Recognition and fame,
With Hollywood's best and brightest,
Superstar names.
