Sister Sister

Happy birthday to my favourite twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen! While some may frown at this duo, I must admit that they are two of my favourite icons. Not only do they demonstrate the meaning of hard-work, dedication, and passion, but they are hugely successful contributors to the world of style with their several fashion ventures: The Row (an upscale minimalist line), Elizabeth & James (their more contemporary label), Olsenboye (an affordable collaboration with J.C. Penny), and Stylemint (a collection of t-shirts). Apart from the clothing they design, it is also their boho-chic, oversized (from bags to coats to eyewear) and eclectic personal styles that always have me drooling. Mary-Kate and Ashley have held a special place in my pop-culture/style obsessed heart ever since I  was introduced to their classic movie collection and of course, Full House, way back when. For me, they have not only been a source of entertainment, but also a source of inspiration. In the off chance that they might ever read this (*wink wink*), I wish them all the best on their 27th birthday!

Still Carried Away

Fifteen years ago today marks the day that the most stylish and female friendly show came on air. While it has been almost my entire lifetime since the start of Sex and the City, it lives on as a classic for many women in terms of the issues the characters raised, things Carrie relentlessly wonders about, New York City culture, and of course, the fashion. Carrie Bradshaw will forever remain one of my fashion icons as her fearless outfit concoctions and bold statements never fail to inspire. Although I was not yet of an appropriate age to watch the premiere fifteen years ago, I hope I can make up for it with this post and the number of time I have rewatched all six seasons since it's fateful start in 1998. A little walk down memory lane...

"Gatsby? What Gatsby?"

This weekend, I braved the lines alongside many other moviegoers as we experienced the vibrant spectacle that was Baz Luhrmann's rendition of The Great Gatsby. While I found the film slow at times, there is no denying the impeccable artistry and craft of the cinematography, music (click here), costumes, and sets. Expectedly, as my heart is devoted to fashion and style, I could not help but gasp as every Tiffany & Co. diamond, Prada frock, and Brooks Brothers ensemble that flashed before my eyes. The glitzy gals and dapper fellows were outfitted to absolute perfection, and it certainly did not stop at the leading roles seeing as all the extras were equally clad to a tee.

Below are a preview of Miuccia Prada's sketches for her intricate designs...

A video that discusses Tiffany & Co.'s partnership with the film...

...and Prada's partnership...
*Note: by far, the most exquisite look of the entire film was the reincarnated Prada chandelier dress that Daisy wears to the first party she attends at Gatsby's.

...and Brooks Brothers partnership...

All I know is that at this point, I think the easiest way to get myself in these clothes would be to spontaneously become a rather talented actress such that I may be cast in the next screen adaptation of a timeless novel. Good plan? I think so.

Better get to it... xx

Hobby

After much anticipation, I finally had the chance to pick-up a copy of Grace Coddington's new memoir. For those who have not seen The September Issue, Ms. Coddington is the distinguished creative director of fashion bible Vogue magazine. I am beyond excited to fall even more in love with the red-head visionary that is Grace Coddington as I indulge in some much needed holiday "me" time.

And here's a clip of Grace from The September Issue...

Fireside, perhaps? xx.

Hey now, hey now

Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting a sister duo that I deem the gods (or shall I say goddesses) of jewelry. Danielle and Jodie Snyder are the co-founders of DANNIJO - a company that produces jewels almost, but not quite as radiant as the sisters' bright and charming nature! You might remember a post from a while back highlighting some of their creations, and in honour of my meeting them yesterday, I have crafted yet another collage with the same purpose.

Pearly whites

If I may only ask one thing of you, my dear readers, in my entire career as a blogger (okay fine, I might be exaggerating a teeny bit but just roll with it...) it is this: sit yourself down, somewhere comfortable such that you will remain seated for approximately thirteen minutes, and feast your eyes on what lies below. I have said it before, and I will say it again - Karl Lagerfeld is a genius. Better yet, he is god. Maybe not god of the heavens above, but without a doubt, I have taken it upon myself to dub Monsieur Karl god of the fashion world. And since my word is as good as anyones...

Fusion

Natalie and Elliot Bergman, a sibling-song-making duo hailing originally from the Windy City, are the combo behind the upcoming band Wild Belle. Their island/soulful tunes make me want to sway back and forth, though it's their image I am really fond of. Miss Natalie (in her earthily trendy garb) is effortlessly cool and her brother, Elliot, ain't too shabby either with his flowy long hair and hip ensembles. Check out their music below in a live performance from the Coachella x Mulberry pool party. In the interview following, I was particularly struck by Natalie's inherent blending of style and music which, she later voices, is what she believes to be a natural marriage. Have a look...

Their album is set to be released early next year.

Keep you. xx

Lily dipping

Latest muse: Lily Collins. Lucky me, I spotted her crossing the street in downtown Toronto just the other day. This should teach you girls - nothing says classy like bushy eyebrows.

Tweeze no more. xx
